The Creedy Flock Of Wiltshire Horn Sheep
The Creedy Flock of Wiltshire Horn Sheep has been built up from scratch since the spring of 2000 when I purchased 8 ewes aged between 4 and 8 years, some with lambs at foot, and 6 shearling. I also purchased one ram, Pewsey Caius. This year (2006 lambing) I have 33 ewes and shearlings to put to the ram on 29th September and only 3 are left from the original purchased flock; the rest being home produced females.
We are using four rams this year from four different bloodlines. They are Creedy Ben (Boxes Bloodline), Creedy Butcher (Pewsey), Creedy Denis (Kelletswood) and BradleyX Basil. Next year (2007 lambing), I plan to introduce three new bloodlines (Celyn, Avoncliff & Lawford), as we are upping our flock number to around 50 ewes over the next few years.
The four tupping rams, from left to right, Denis, Ben, Butcher & Basil tuck into their daily pre-tupping high protein Lupin feed, which is fed for eight weeks before tupping
The Creedy flock is Media Visna and Enzootic Abortion Accredited flock with a high health status. The flock is also a member of the National Scrapie Plan with all the flock, male and female, having been tested and genotyped over the years. From September 2005 the Creedy Flock will become a Category A Scrapie flock, meaning that all ewes and rams in the flock will only be ARR/ARR genotype.
To keep the flock moving forward in the 21st Century we also plan to have the flock Signet Recorded for the year 2006.
